IGTV was a standalone video application for Android and iOS^[3] smartphones, launched by Instagram^[1] in June 2018. This platform allowed users to upload longer videos, up to 15 minutes via mobile devices and up to 60 minutes via desktop web browsers. The file size limit was 650 MB for mobile and 3.6 GB for desktop uploads. IGTV videos started playing automatically upon app launch. Unique features included the capacity to upload landscape videos and mirror content to a linked Facebook^[2] page. Notably, the service required an Instagram account for access, and profiles with an IGTV channel had a dedicated tab on their page. As of March 2022, the IGTV app has been shut down, and its functionalities have been integrated into the main Instagram app.

The service was launched and introduced by former Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom in a live event in San Francisco on June 20, 2018, featuring creators such as Lele Pons.

On 1 March 2022 Instagram's parent company, Meta, announced the shutdown of IGTV, due to their focus on Instagram Reels. The app was removed from app stores in mid-March, and all IGTV videos were then merged into the Instagram app.
