PayPal is a global financial company that specializes in digital payments and money transfers. It was originally founded as Confinity in 1998, went public in 2002, and was acquired by eBay the same year. In 2015, PayPal became independent from eBay. The company is known for its notable founders, including Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, and is currently led by President and CEO Dan Schulman. PayPal’s services, which operate in over 200 countries, include transactions in 25 currencies, PayPal Here, and PayPal Credit. It also offers safety measures like Buyer Protection Policy and two-factor authentication. Recently, PayPal has embraced cryptocurrency, introducing a flat-fee structure for these transactions in 2022.

Established in 1998 as Confinity, PayPal went public through an IPO in 2002. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay later that year, valued at $1.5 billion. In 2015 eBay spun off PayPal to its shareholders, and PayPal became an independent company again. The company was ranked 143rd on the 2022 Fortune 500 of the largest United States corporations by revenue. Since 2023 PayPal is a member of the MACH Alliance.
