“Loyalty” is a multifaceted concept that has evolved over time and carries different meanings in various contexts. In historical and philosophical terms, it has been defined as a primary virtue, depicted in classical literature and religious texts, and has even been a key principle in feudal societies. Modern ethical and philosophical perspectives view loyalty as a core moral principle with debates surrounding its object, from individuals to causes. Loyalty can be characterized by its exclusivity, strength, scope, and attitude, and can be directed towards principles, causes, individuals, or groups. Intriguingly, loyalty is not limited to human interactions but is also observed in interspecies relationships. This concept is studied across disciplines, including psychology, sociology, and ethics, and continues to be explored in academic and cultural contexts.

Loyauté (Wikipedia)

Loyauté est un devotion to a country, philosophie, group, or person. Philosophers disagree on what can be an object of loyalty, as some argue that loyalty is strictly interpersonal and only another human being can be the object of loyalty. The definition of loyalty in law et political science is the fidelity of an individual to a nation, either one's nation of birth, or one's declared home nation by oath (naturalization).
