Workplace is a collaborative software[1] platform developed by Facebook[2], officially launched in October 2016. Initially announced in 2015, it was known as Facebook at Work during its beta phase. The platform operates separately from personal Facebook accounts, leveraging the same underlying technology[3]. Data on Workplace is stored across 12 Facebook-owned data centers. It offers integration with other Software as a Service (SaaS) tools such as Jira, SharePoint, and Zoom. In June 2018, a version called Workplace for Good was introduced specifically for non-profit and educational institutions. A notable feature added in October 2018 was Safety Check. Free accounts were discontinued in February 2021. It’s described by PC Mag as a version of Facebook designed for coworkers and bosses.
