The Intercept is a digital news organization, primarily focused on investigative journalism. It was established in February 2014 by Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, and Laura Poitras, with funding from First Look Media, a venture of Pierre Omidyar. The platform gained immediate attention for reporting on documents released by whistleblower Edward Snowden. However, co-founders Greenwald and Poitras eventually departed due to internal disputes. In 2023, The Intercept transitioned into an independent nonprofit entity. It also expanded with a Portuguese edition called The Intercept Brasil, concentrating on Brazil’s political news. The organization has a podcast named “Intercepted” and has been recognized with several awards for its journalistic endeavors. Despite controversies, including accusations of endangering whistleblowers and censorship, The Intercept continues to be a significant player in the field of investigative journalism.
